Day 189… Wednesday 27th September
Usual campsite companions – friendly cats, German shepherds, and vervet monkeys. Very close encounter with a monkey in the tree above trying to take aim and pee into my morning cup of coffee. Not impressed but it could have been far worse 😊 Took a half hour taxi ride to Kenya High School where my mum and aunt attended between 1960 and 1965. Our taxi driver was called Nelson ‘Smiley’ who stayed with us for the day. The security guards at the school let us in and staff very kindly arranged a tour for us. The librarian dug out the old school magazines and found the archived files on my mum and aunt. The school buildings are impressive built between 1910 and 1930 and have not changed. Even the school uniform remains the same. School numbers since then have increased from 600 to 1,800 – the school is bursting at the seams and needs more space. Each dormitory has bunkbeds and fits 40 students.
