The wild west of Namibia

Day 97 Saturday 8th July

Our campsite had McGregor’s Bakery next door, famous for its apple pie and cinnamon buns.  We had to sample the cinnamon buns.  A shorter 3 hour drive today through the Namibian desert.  Very barren landscape with rocky areas and then a drive through some stunning mountains.  Very straight sand or gravel roads. No wildlife to be seen expect for a group of baboons crossing the road ahead.  Not sure how they survive in this environment with no visible rivers or trees to climb.  The scenery is quite dramatic to look at with flat sand or rocky desert and then mountain ranges.  Our campsite ‘Mount D’Urban’ was half way up a mountain with incredible views and our own private shower/wc block.  The owner was very friendly and we were able to purchase firewood for the braai, lamb chops, boerewors, jam and bread (all homemade).  Sat enjoying the sunset with an open fire and the night sky with thousands of stars.
