Camping by the Cubango

Day 148… Thursday 17th August

Leisurely lie-in today before hitting the road.  The animal disease veterinary check point waved us through – the hidden meat and cheese remains safe!  Several miles of road works – diversions in place but road layout mildly confusing.  There are construction workers waving red flags to slow you down or halt traffic.  Heading east today along the Caprivi strip, close to the Botswana border.  Plenty of cattle and goats crossing the road.  Small kids selling fruit at the side of the road where the road works had held traffic up.  Stopped for fuel and supplies which should get us all the way to Zambia.  Google directions let us down as it suggested a sand road 1 mile long.  Having experienced deep sand roads in the Democratic Republic of Congo, not something to relish at the end of a long hot day in case we got stuck.  Consulted the map and chose a gravel road instead.  A minor detour but worked a treat.  Our campsite pitch was right on the Cubango river with a private deck.  Watched a group of hippos with the sunsetting.
