Day 165… Sunday 3rd September
Decided to split the intended journey into Malawi over 2 days so it would be easier to manage as the road to Chipata was bad and would take 3 hours. We needed fuel and supplies before the border crossing into Malawi. Apparently there is a fuel problem in Malawi but with a full tank and our 2×20 litre jerry cans full, we should be able to get across the country without needing to re-fuel. Our campsite ‘Mama Rulas’ was just outside Chipata, had a nice vibe with a bar/restaurant and friendly fellow campers.

Allen’s perspective…
Before we left camp we had a few chats with neighbouring campers, including a couple from Holland with a Hilux in a similar setup to ours. There were also a Spanish couple who we joked with about some tents that had popped up on the bank that morning… prime location for hippos to munch on. They had better watch out for themselves.
At the second campsite we met several nice South Africans who are also travelling. A chance to share more stories and opinions, whilst enjoying plenty of beers.
