Limp on to Luanda

Day 82… Thursday 22nd June

An attempt to boil some water for a cup of coffee had to be abandoned as the power run out.  A lukewarm drink had to do but the view of the beach and coast was amazing.  No shower facilities available and the last time I had clean clothes to wear was in Cameroon.  Greta needed to keep going as did her passengers to travel 148 miles south to Luanda where there would be a mechanic.  Despite the gear box issue, we made it although there were 2 police stops which involved an engine switch off and start in gear.  The officers smiled when we simply said ‘mechanico, Luanda’.  Luckily the road to Luanda was tarred, smooth, quiet and very few gear changes needed.  Our accommodation for the night was an urban campsite geared up for overlanders with a shop, bar, and restaurant.  The owners were great hosts and arranged for a mechanic to arrive tomorrow. Local beer tonight was ‘Eka’.
